Head Gesture Steering for Google Cardboard

Christiane Snyder

This series revolves around using the player’s real life orientation information collected from the Cardboard viewer to steer a virtual character.

On top of learning about head gesture steering, you’ll be exposed to design approaches that will prevent common issues associated with VR experiences.

Game Design Overview

  • User will steer a fish at a constant speed throughout a underwater landscape.
  • Goal is to collect all the coins in the scene.
  • When the character collides with a coin, an arrow will appear that will point in the next coins direction.
  • A shark NPC will chase the fish character if they get too close to each other.
  • If the fish touches the shark, it will disappear and the game will end.
